A single solution for all the airline's needs
The QuietEagle spreads its wings
As European Sales Partner of Aviation Fleet Solutions, G&G Aviation is pleased to announce that the QuietEagle noise reduction system has been certified by the FAA for installation on any MD-80 aircraft and the process for obtaining EASA validation of the STC has been started.
The QuietEagle, which is a Pratt & Whitney design that has been exclusively licensed to AFS for MD-80, reduces cumulative noise from the JT8D-200 powered MD-80 aircraft by as much as six dB and meets all the requirements of FAR Part 36 Stage 4 and ICAO Annex 16 Chapter 4 noise standards, which became effective January 1, 2006.
The First QuietEagle units will be ready to ship to airline customers in May 2006.
The QuietEagle includes an improved front fan case, a 16-lobe mixer, a muffler and a tabbed nozzle. The new technology hardware replaces older hardware components. "This fairly simple modification will significantly extend the productive life of the MD-80 fleet, particularly in Europe where operators face expensive penalties for operating noisier aircraft," said Kevin Bartelson, president of Aviation Fleet Solutions.
It is estimated that an average European operator could save 2,400€ per trip flying the QuietEagle versus a new generation aircraft of similar size due to the acquisition cost of the new aircraft.
Airlines can purchase the kit separately from Aviation Fleet Solutions or as part of JT8D-200 service contracts through Pratt & Whitney Global Service Partners. The JT8D is one of the most ubiquitous engines in commercial aviation with 8,000 in service and more than 2,100 powering MD-80 aircraft.
